Push and Pull

Updated:

Before I unleash my analogy, I want to declare that this is not medical advice and only represents my anecdotal observations. I’ve noticed through my years of on and off weight lifting, playing guitar and (sometimes intense) computer use, that I from time-to-time come up with ‘itises in the elbow, shoulder, wrist, etc. As time goes by I do less computer and guitar, and more weight training and posture exercises. Why is this? The dumb answer is too much push/pull and not enough pull/push.

What I find in myself is if I make repeated movements in one direction, or apply isometric pressure in one directions, or even leaning at my workspace in one position for too long, my body becomes weaker, stiffer, and I experience pain. If I start stretching the over emphasized movements and strains and add additional strength training to the opposites of those movements, the clicks and pops subside and the ‘itises begin to disappear.

Why is this relevant? This type of overwork imbalance happens in our mind, spirit and emotional lives as well. It’s important to have balance in all aspects of life. Having and equilibrium in usage and capacity is key to maintaining ambition, compassion, energy and overall wellness.
